Music is on the march!  The Rampage Marching Band Field Show Tournament returns to College of the Canyons Cougar Stadium on November 1, 10:00AM to 10:00PM. This is the 31st season of this awesome event, and we feel proud that this tradition of classic competition calls Awesometown its home.

This all-day event showcases the skill and spirit of well-over 30 high school bands and colorguard teams. Groups gather from across the state to join the Hart district marching bands and colorguards. Competition is on display throughout the day, as bands compete to see who has the most dazzling performance and spirited play.

This is your chance to experience something truly unique and awesome – a town tradition with stadium food, prizes and one-of-a-kind performances. Admission is $10 for adults and $8 for seniors and students. All are welcome!

Valencia Fall Festivities

????????????????????????????????????

From the beautiful surroundings and cooler temperatures to the return of pumpkin spice lattes and hayrides, there’s so much to love about fall. Get out and about with your family and celebrate the season in style at these upcoming local events!

Pumpkin patches are all around, and the one at Nancy’s Ranch is among the best. They’re open from October 1 through Halloween, and claim one of the biggest pumpkin crops around. Their pumpkins are truly massive, and they put a fun twist on that: If you find the name of their Giant Pumpkin, then mention it to the cashier, you get a free “Jack-B-Little” mini pumpkin, up to 2 per family, with your pumpkin purchase. They’ve also got a special coupon for pumpkin and Christmas tree purchases on the Nancy’s Ranch website.

And if you’re in for a scare, Awesometown has you covered– fairs, tours, houses and even castles. It starts with the Harry Carey (Merry but Scary) Halloween Tour, from October 17 to 26, a night of history and haunts set in a 1930s Adobe Mansion at Tesoro Adobe Historic Park. Then Heritage Haunt is open October 18 to 26 – a non-profit fundraising event with zombie walks and a haunted house, recommended for children over 8.

There are so many more events full of spooky fun to find, but the big masked bashes come at the end of the month, with October 25 featuring the 14th annual Halloween Fiesta at the Newhall Community Center. It’s a free event for all ages, with a children’s costume contest, pumpkin decorating, food, drinks and live entertainment. The party goes on the next night, with the Haunted Jailhouse on October 26 offering outdoor games, activities, food and a costume judging.

Fall’s about more than tricks and treats. It’s also about worldwide celebrations. On October 18, it’s time for beer, bratwurst, music and games — time for Oktoberfest! From 7-11PM, the patio and mirrored dance hall will fill with visitors from around the Southland for this special night of German culture. Take a tip from us and order admission online at a discount.

There really are a lot of ways to get swept up in the fall holidays around here. Here’s to a happy Halloween season in Awesometown!

Room for Awesome Living: The Great Room

1342-02_PL3_GreatRm_Capri_at_West_Hills_Lennar_EricFiggePhotos

With space that brings the living room, family room and kitchen area into one unified space, great rooms have definitely become the hub of a home! In modern housing design, great rooms feature diverse layouts, a blend of furnishings and, above all, space – and in Awesometown, that concept is no different.

Here are the great rooms of Valencia!

Kitchens have been known to be the gathering place of a household and Charleston by KB Home features a great room that gives a nod to the importance of kitchen activities. The great room of these RiverVillage homes sets the kitchen at its core and is made for a family that enjoys the finer things – together.

With a large kitchen island made for entertaining friends and family, the great rooms in the homes at Belmont at West Hills by D.R. Horton are true design statement pieces. This flowing space is airy and open, allowing the family to spend time together in a space devoted to togetherness.

In modern dwellings, the family room and the kitchen is where the hearth and heart of a home reside.  The homes at Mosaic of West Hills put this principle of the great room on display. Its design by Lennar allows for smooth transition into a luxurious, open gathering space with enough room  for all to enjoy.

The living room is where life gains purpose – and incorporating the living room model into the great room means dedicating space to relaxation and reflection. The Terra homes in Villa Metro boast cozy flooring and plenty of space to spread out. Designed by The New Home Company, Terra’s great room features open views and ample space for the whole family to unwind.

Hartford, Kensington and Providence at RiverVillage by Beazer Homes are now pre-selling, so make sure to check out their innovative floor plans today!

Great rooms truly are where the entire home comes together! Add some awesome, and these rooms redefine the meaning of the word “great.”

Walking for a Cause: Heart Walk, Walk to End Alzheimer’s, Run/Walk for Heroes, Wellness Walk

Valencia residents are awesome all around—whether playing, working or coming together for a great cause. This season, people are hitting the Awesometown streets for a host of good causes. They’re Walking for a Cause, in a series of community events: the Run/Walk for Heroes, Walk to End Alzheimer’s, Heart Walk and Wellness Walk.

The Run/Walk for Heroes leads the way with a family-focused run/walk on September 5, 6:30PM, to raise money for scholarships for first responders. This second annual event is held by Valencia College’s Alumni Association in partnership with the Rotary Club of Lake Nona and is one of several college events held to commemorate September 11, 2001.

Run for Heroes

Then comes a weekend that’s filled with fundraising. Saturday, September 20th features the Walk to End Alzheimer’s and the Heart Walk. Starting at Bridgeport Park, the Walk to End Alzheimer’s gathers at 7AM and is a full-family event. Funds further the care, support and research efforts of the Alzheimer’s Association.

Walk to End Alzheimers

Across town, there’s the Greater Los Angeles County Heart Walk, forming at 8AM at the Westfield-Valencia Town Center Mall by Sears. Before and after the walk, which begins at 9AM, kids can participate in fun activities, you can learn from free CPR demonstrations and blood pressure screenings, and all can pay tribute to loved ones at the Wall of Hope.

The Wellness Walk brings two fabulous organizations together on October 5, 8AM to 12PM, to benefit Circle of Hope. The Wellness Institute and Women in Insurance & Financial Services are banding together, gathering for this family-friendly walk, and donating 100% of proceeds toward providing financial, emotional and educational support for uninsured and underinsured individuals with breast cancer.

Wellness Walk

September to October is a great season to show you’re taking a stand, to gather others to do the same and to enjoy a goody bag in the process. So get active for the causes you support and get to be a part of something Awesome!

Hart Dance Team Advanced to Quarterfinals on America’s Got Talent

Hart Dance Team on AGTv2

When the Hart Dance Team took their 26-person act to America’s Got Talent, all of America got a look at the kind of amazing people Valencia has to offer. This award-winning competitive dance team hails from Santa Clarita, and many of its star-caliber girls call Awesometown their home. Over the last few weeks, they took to the national stage when they advanced through the ranks of the NBC primetime hit.

Coached, trained and directed by choreographer Katherine Leist, this awesome act trains year-round at school and studios in our hometown region. This intensive regimen allows the Hart Dance team to flow from style to style, through ballet, jazz, lyrical, contemporary, tap, hip-hop and acrobatic routines. Throw in the team’s seamless synergy and flair for artistic presentation, and you have a hit performance that flew up the levels of America’s Got Talent.

The Hart Dance Team’s audition in America’s Got Talent Season Nine featured stylized costumes, an on-stage structure and a surprise — their routine started with two dancers, then suddenly became twenty when the whole team poured from the background structure. Unanimous approval from the judges allowed them to shoot straight through Judgment Week and into the quarterfinals.

Sparkling suits and chart-topping hits were what the Hart Dance Team quarterfinals performance was all about. It won them votes, but not enough to rise to the America’s Got Talent semifinals. It’s sure they’ll go further — and soon — because awesome talent like theirs is sure to find some way to shine! We’re proud to call the Hart Dance Team members of the Awesometown family.
